INFO:

It's called EARTHQUACK. The tagline is 'Failure is an option'.
A number of acts who are already experimental / improvisational /
challenging are already lined up for it, but I think it would be
especially interesting to have more straightahead artists trying out
their wackiest ideas... let me know. www.myspace.com/diarmuidmacdiarmada

ZORILLA
A long and colourful history aside, Zorilla began as a child-eating
devil in a Swiss ski-resort. Or was it Marko and Rosso writing tricksy
surprising and dramatic instrumentals over a couple of years before
bringing in the unique, raw-soul vocal tones of Keelin (along with
songs the she and Rosso had written what with them being sibling to
one another and everything). Add the un-macho swagger of Gillo on
guitar and lastly add the studio savvy and drum abuse and frequent
indigestion of Diarmo and there you go! Zorilla!

Drunken Boat made its way to your desktop/mp3 player/cd player [even!]
from the ‘burbs of Dublin, through the city streets, bouncing out of
guitars before lazily moving through a laptop and into ears. It is the
culmination of 6 months of work that evolved into the pieces of music
you now hear.

DRUNKEN BOAT
is now made up of Brian and Dror who lends his talents on drums. They
are currently rehearsing and plan to gig in the coming months. Their
sound has shifted to a heavier fuller songs with the familiar floaty
and folky feel.

Over 6 years ago Brian began the journey with 5 demos under the name
Howie Walshberg. These recordings were made primarily with acoustic
and electric guitars and passed out among friends. Some songs were
traditionally structured; others improvised with an emphasis on
texture and feel. Influenced by dEUS, Sonic Youth, Pavement, WILCO and
bands from the local indie scene such as the Redneck Manifesto, the
style was experimental, providing him with insights into layering
guitars and the freedom to try any ideas he had. After a brief spell
with a straightforward folk group he began writing guitar lines and
using a loop station thus providing the bones for several of the
Drunken Boat songs.

Simon Brennan joined the group and added layered synth arrangements in
the vein of Brian Eno and Philip Glass. Other influences such as Low
and Yann Tierson kept the live elements present in his music.
Gathering momentum his collection of musical equipment grew allowing
him to create a vast array of sounds from light lifting strings to
heavy driving organs. He also plays in the group Night and Fog.

The common interest in textured sound and picking guitars, loops and
straight-up songs brought about “Cut the Engines, Raise the Sails”.
One part experimental the other part-ambient/folk/alternative, these
novel songs were recorded from May to September 2007, taking place
whenever ideas came to the band. Beginning with guitars, the songs
expanded with keyboards, organs, cellos and banjos.

crowning achievement."
Sunday Business Post
--------
"This record is simply a work of extreme orchestral splendour."

inventive as this!"
1/2 Hot Press
--------
"An indelible chronicle of nine musicians contributing to a singular
and necessary vision"
State
--------
"... it has been worth the wait, as Spectre & Crown is easily their
finest work to date. From the opening piano chord of Red Tony, to the
final note of Last Breath, The Jimmy Cake hardly put a foot wrong."
Totally Dublin
--------
"Spectre & Crown is The Jimmy Cake's most arresting album to date."
Sunday Times

"By turns minimalistic and multi-layered, Spectre & Crown has moments
of astonishing beauty. There are plenty of captivating tracks too -
soaring and emotive."
Day & Night / Irish Independent
--------
"... one of the most coherent, beautiful albums of the year so far."
entertainment.ie
--------
"I cannot convey how enjoyable Spectre & Crown is."
brainwashed.com
--------
"The album is a moving, sweepingly beautiful, orchestral epic with
nine life-enhancing tracks of such diversity and scope that it’s hard
to fathom that just nine people made it.
... few records will reach the heights that this royally brilliant
piece of work reaches. An instant and longterm classic."
10/10
Westmeath Examiner
--------
"Give up your job, lose your friends and spend all day with the
headphones on as you scour the earth on your quest - you will not find
a better track this year than 'Red Tony' ... here is a piece so epic
and emotive that it ranks with anything the legends have come up
with ... 'Jetta's Palace', is so urgent and infectious that the clock
radio should crank it out first thing every morning, followed by 'Hugs
for Buddy'. And at the other end of the day 'Collapsing Cloud Night at
the Starry Sky' would soothe anything which has gone .. you hit the
pillow ... The musicianship is superb, their potential colossal ...
it's not too early to start buying the Christmas presents."
RTÉ.ie
--------
"Once you let go, it's a glorious experience."
