...there be Dragons

This work was painted just before I became a father for the first time. It is full of excitement as well as the trepidation in the face of the unknown.

Dear John-Paul, Many thanks for taking the time to look through my new site. It's taken up all of my time for weeks now, so I'll be (extremely) glad to get back in the Studio on Monday morning - although I always find it extremely difficult to get started again after any kind of a substantial break.
Anyway, thanks again, All the best, Chris

Hi Christopher... this work caught my eye right away. I'm very fond of the 'material' of canvas and love to see it evidenced as in this work. Also the deep ocean blue counters beautifully the dry creams and siennas in the rest of the image. The edge of the world? Or the beginning of a new one with your growing family?
Enjoyed your website thoroughly - well crafted presentation and the artworks stand out by themselves.
I hope we don't have to wait for new additions to the family to see more of your work on this site.
Regards /j-p.

I see a little of Tapies mixed with Burri in this work - two artists who have influenced my work too - the blue also reminds me of Klein. The broken threads could indicate a certain nervous anticipation but the blue is reassuringly solid in comparison.

Brilliant use of texture as a major compositional element. Wonderful use of negative space. Is there fabric incorporated? Fantastically pulled off.

Right off the bat I notice the texture. I love the black vigorously applied... so full of energy... Beautiful. Not sure about the black on the bottom... perhaps a little mor of your orange and red to give more balance overall, but wonderful technique adn gorgeous use of white and once again texture.. I can't say enough about how much I love seeing the texture.
