Well, Maria and I sometimes have different opinions (heaven thanks ... or whoever is responsible for this) so every now and then we are eager to convince each other as can be seen on this nice little photograph

The other day I was looking for a canvas I could use for a new painting I had in mind. After filing through piles of old paintings for what seemed to be hours I ran into this Rothko I couldn’t remember of having. Well, I said to myself, I’ll take this, especially for it immediately began to spread this slightly depressing atmosphere Bacon once spoke of. While hauling it into the studio room and hanging it onto my painting-wall for to paint it over the idea emerged that I better should sell it for say five million dollars instead and share this sum with the club members. One million for each of us would be much better than cramming another Hanjo painting into my store room. Well, maybe I should change my program anyway for a while for Rothkos are not very difficult to do. I could easily paint three or five a day ...
